The Divisional Police Officer of Bar Beach, Victoria Island, Lagos, Mr. Fayoade Adegoke, reported the case of a 26-year-old, man who allegedly pushed down his Facebook lover, 21-year-old Akabugu Nkiruka from a multi-storey building, on the 1st of November. It was said the incident occurred after they had a disagreement over sex.The suspect, whose name is withheld for unknown reasonmight be charged with attempted murder, says the police.
The victim suffered multiple injuries and a fractured pelvis. Akabugu Nkiruka is a Linguistic student of the University of Lagos. According to her, she met the man on Facebook (a social media) a barely a week before the incident, thereafter they went clubbing andeventually went to his family home at 1004 Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos, Punch reports.
She reported that she had told him on the phone that she wasn’t interested in sex because she was menstruating. To her utmost dismay, on getting to the house the man tore her dress and tried to rape her. Thereafter, she was pushed down from the third floor of the building because she refused to have sex with him.
The mother of the young man was at home that night, she claims she was not aware of how it happened because she slept around 10 pm while the incident occurred much later. She also noted that inquiry preliminary showed that Nkiruka was not pushed by her son as alleged, but that she jumped on her own in the ensuing scuffle, Punch reports.
The DPO said:
“However,the parents of the suspect and the victim were engaged in reconciliatory talks over the matter”,said the DPO.
NAN (News agency of Nigeria) recalls that seven young men, including two who met 24-year-old Miss Cynthia Osokogu on Facebook, are currently facing trial for allegedly raping and killing her in Lagos earlier this year.
